The D'Alembert System
There are few ways that you can take a game like roulette and improve your odds. One way would be to use a bet progression that is based solely on the result of your previous bet, as opposed to what you predict the next spin is likely to produce. The premise of The D'Alembert System is easy to follow: when you lose a bet, you add one unit to your next bet, and when you win a bet, you deduct one unit from your next bet. Though it is unlikely you will win large with this system, it is also incredibly unlikely that you will lose any great amount of money.
The Progression
The way this will play out can sometimes be difficult to imagine, but the chances of reaching the table maximum are unlikely. The chances of reaching the minimum, however, are much more believable. For example, if you started with a $5 wager and won, your next round would be $4, and then $3, and then $2. If the table minimum is $1, you would quickly approach this number. As hitting the minimum is likely, many would suggest that you begin your betting at a higher amount, such as $10 to start. When losing, you will increase as you move along, meaning you will not lose any large amounts of money, but you are conservatively raising your bets to progress.
Though the use of this system is likely to result in a session of winnings versus losses, there is still merit in this play. Roulette, in particular, favors the house and you should do anything you can to try to decrease the odds of losing money to the house.
